Oh man, it has been way to long and I am so sorry that I have been so MIA lately. I finished culinary school in August, wrapped up my kitchen internship in October, and since then I have been working at a farm-to-table restaurant in the West Village called Mas Farmhouse. Besides getting my butt handed to me in the kitchen on a daily, I am still teaching yoga, traveling a ton and gearing up for the holidays. I am… Read more »

I hope that everyone had a great holiday! We didn’t get into too much, but the weather was beautiful so we headed on over to Central Park and pretended that we were laying on the beach in the sunshine. It was not the beach, but the little extra vitamin D and the bunny ears did us wonders. 😉 Minus the weird snow hiccup we had last week, spring has officially sprung in NYC and I cannot stop taking photos of… Read more »

Derika and I are getting ready to head to New Orleans for the weekend. Mardi Gras kicks off this weekend, and I cannot wait to see my first Mardi Gras parade. I will have a few travel days by myself since Derika has to work, so stay tuned for an update on my New Orleans Adventures. I am sure that it will include many beignets, hurricanes, beads, and brunching; I AM SO EXCITED!! The last time that both of us… Read more »

About a year ago I posted a recipe on how to make homemade almond milk with a blender or magic bullet.  It is a simple recipe, but there is some soaking of the almonds, some straining of the almond meal and a decent amount of mess. Since then I have been fortunate enough to acquire a Vitamix . They are a bit spendy, but totally worth it. The first thing I did with my Vitamix was make almond milk, and I… Read more »

I am blaming kale chips for my love of kale, ever since I had kale chips I cannot seem to get enough of kale in any form.  I want to put or sneak it into everything, it is almost getting as bad as my garlic and spicy food addiction.  I have been making kale salads a few times a week, but this is by far my new favorite recipe.  I could eat it everyday and I just might.  This salad is… Read more »

Things are changing on my end. Derika and I are in the process of getting ready to relocate to NYC for her job at the end of this month!  My days have been spent enjoying the beach, cooking and purging all of the things that we will not be able to take with us on this move. All of this purging has gotten me to thinking about all of the great things about San Diego that I will miss.  Favorite… Read more »

Mmmmmm….granola, but gluten-free granola…who knew!?  I love this granola by itself or sprinkled on my greek yogurt with some chia seeds.  You might find that this is so addicting, that it is hard not to grab a handful every time you walk past the jar! I started playing around with my own gluten-free granola recipe after I started buying Steve’s Paleo Krunch.  Steve’s granola is super tasty, but when you form an addiction like I did…it can get a little pricey…. I have been making the heck out of almond milk lately.  It is just so darn easy to make and a perfect complement to my smoothies in the morning.  Over the course of a couple of weeks, I end up with a lot of almond pulp from all of the almond milk that I make. I really wanted to do a post on what to do with all of your almond pulp, so that you don’t throw your almond pulp… Read more »

I recently discovered that I like almond milk. Well, actually I LOOOOVE almond milk!  It has a great taste that goes great in just about anything and it is dairy free, so your tummy will also thank you for it.  Once you’ve had it fresh, the rich taste will keep you coming back for more! And guess what? It’s super easy to make. Why drive to the store and buy almond milk when you can make it in minutes, plus it is… Read more »
