I hope that everyone had a great holiday! We didn’t get into too much, but the weather was beautiful so we headed on over to Central Park and pretended that we were laying on the beach in the sunshine. It was not the beach, but the little extra vitamin D and the bunny ears did us wonders. 😉 Minus the weird snow hiccup we had last week, spring has officially sprung in NYC and I cannot stop taking photos of… Read more »

I’m BACK…sorry about the small hiatus. March seemed to be a popular month for houseguests.  I have spent the past two weeks playing tour guide for some of my most favorite people from the West Coast.  It has been great, because not only was I able to show them some places that I love, I was able to discover a ton of new places. I am constantly amazed by how many things New York City has to offer.  You could… Read more »

So the veggie spiralizer obsession continues!  I thought that since I did a blog post on how to make zucchini noodles that it would be a little cruel to leave you hanging without something delicious to cover them with.  I bet you didn’t know this, but I live with a Bolognese Connoisseur…my wife Derika looooooves Bolognese.  Currently, her two favorite places to get Bolognese are Bizarro Italian Cafe in Seattle and the Union Square Cafe in NYC. If you… Read more »

I’ve wanted a vegetable spiralizer for a couple of years now, and this Christmas Santa finally brought me one! There are a ton of different versions out there, so after I got mine I did some research. I found out that the two most popular ones are thePaderno World Cuisine Spiralizer and the GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer. Santa ended up getting me the GEFU version and I really like it.  I have a ton of kitchen appliances and I like that… Read more »

Happy Halloween!!! I cannot believe that tomorrow is November 1st, and that Derika and I have been living in NYC for 2 months already…where has the year gone!?  The weather is starting to get chilly in NYC, and it is really starting to make me miss sunny San Diego and the amazing farmer’s markets that happen all year there. When Derika and I lived in San Diego, we use to go to the farmer’s market twice a week to pick… Read more »

About a year ago I posted a recipe on how to make homemade almond milk with a blender or magic bullet.  It is a simple recipe, but there is some soaking of the almonds, some straining of the almond meal and a decent amount of mess. Since then I have been fortunate enough to acquire a Vitamix . They are a bit spendy, but totally worth it. The first thing I did with my Vitamix was make almond milk, and I… Read more »

Pad Thai is usually my go to dish when I am trying out a new Thai restaurant.  If they mess that dish up, then I don’t have high hopes for anything else that is going to come out of that kitchen.  That being said, I have never had much success at making pad thai at home, and I stopped trying since I have been cutting back on my noodle intake lately.  🙁 I have been using spaghetti squash in some… Read more »

I love mexican food and wish that every day was TACO TUESDAYYYYYY!  I would eat chips and salsa and tacos and chips and guacamole and chips and tacos and salsa and hot sauce and tacos and cheese and chips and salsa every single day if I could.   I have been playing around with these tortillas for months and I think I finally got it.  These gluten-free tortillas are sturdy enough to hold all of your taco goodness like cheese… Read more »

I remember the first time that I had tofu…I was 15 and I had just stopped eating meat.  I put it into my stir-fry bowl at a Mongolian restaurant and I hated it.  The texture was way weird and it kind of disintegrated in my mouth…YUCK!  I actually didn’t start to like tofu until I started eating Thai food, their tofu was super firm and they crisped the heck out of it. Everything is better fried!  I can now eat… Read more »

I am sitting on my balcony right now listening to the ocean and the sound of boxes being taped, as the last of our belongings get loaded into the moving truck that will be headed to NYC.  My neighbor bunny is not pleased with the situation and is currently giving me the stink eye. Tomorrow we are off on a week-long road trip that will eventually lead us to NYC. Along the way we plan on stopping at the Grand… Read more »
